Oil does not remain politely on top of porous concrete. Time, heat, vehicle pressure, and the pore structure of the slab can move it below the surface—where water pressure alone cannot reach it.
The first hours matter
Fresh fluid can often be absorbed before it migrates deeper. Dry absorbent material and proper collection may do more early work than immediately flooding the spot.
Once the surface is prepared, a compatible degreasing treatment may help break up remaining residue. Product choice, dwell time, heat, and repeated treatment all affect the response.
A shadow is not surface dirt
An old dark area may be absorbed into the slab. Cleaning can remove the surrounding traffic film and lighten the stain while leaving a visible shadow.
That can make the contrast look sharper at first: the field around the stain is cleaner, but the material inside the concrete remains. This is not automatically a failed cleaning process.
A useful scope separates two jobs
Routine surface cleaning and targeted stain treatment should be written as separate parts of the scope. That makes the additional effort visible without disguising uncertainty as a guarantee.
